Recovery Gear

Truck recovery gear are essential tools and equipment used to safely recover a stuck or disabled truck from tough terrain, such as mud, sand, snow, or rocky trails. This gear typically includes items like tow straps, shackles, recovery boards, winches, and snatch blocks—all designed to help get your vehicle moving again when it’s immobilized. Whether you’re off-roading, working in remote areas, or just want to be prepared, having the right recovery gear ensures you’re ready for unexpected situations and can get back on the road safely.

Recovery Kits

Our Recovery Kits by ARB are ready-to-go kits designed to provide you with some of the important recovery tools needed. We offer three kinds of kits. The Weekender Recovery Kit, Essentials Recovery Kit & the Premium Recovery Kit. Each kit includes at a bare minimum a recovery strap, shackles and gloves.

Recovery Straps

Recovery straps, also known as snatch straps, are heavy-duty, elastic straps used to recover vehicles that are stuck, particularly in off-road situations such as mud, sand, or snow. Unlike rigid tow ropes or chains, recovery straps are designed to stretch under load, storing kinetic energy. When the strap recoils, this stored energy helps “snatch” the stuck vehicle free with a sudden but controlled jolt. One end is attached to the recovery vehicle and the other to the stuck vehicle’s rated recovery point. This method reduces the shock load on both vehicles and provides a more effective and safer recovery. It’s important to use properly rated straps and secure them to purpose-built recovery points to prevent damage or injury.

Recovery Points

Recovery points are reinforced attachment areas on a vehicle specifically designed to withstand the forces involved in towing or recovery operations. Typically mounted to the chassis or frame of the truck, recovery points provide a secure place to connect recovery equipment such as winch cables, tow straps, or shackles. Unlike standard tow hooks or tie-down loops, which may not be engineered for heavy loads, properly rated recovery points are built to handle the significant stress and force encountered during off-road recoveries or when pulling a stuck vehicle free. Using designated recovery points is essential for safety, as improper attachment can result in equipment failure or injury.

Trail Jacks

A trail jack is a specialized lifting device designed to raise heavy trucks or off-road vehicles that have become stuck, overturned, or immobilized, typically in challenging terrain such as mud, sand, or rocky areas. Unlike standard jacks used for simple tire changes, recovery jacks are built to handle extreme loads and are often taller and more robust, with features that allow them to function on uneven ground. They are commonly used in off-roading, commercial trucking, and emergency recovery situations to lift the vehicle enough to place traction aids, clear debris, or reposition it for towing. These jacks can be mechanical, hydraulic, or high-lift types, offering versatility and durability in tough conditions.

Recovery Boards

Recovery boards, also known as traction boards, are tools used to help vehicles regain traction when they become stuck in soft or slippery surfaces such as sand, mud, snow, or loose gravel. Made from durable, high-grip materials like reinforced plastic or composite polymers, these boards are placed under the vehicle’s tires to provide a solid surface for the wheels to grip onto. They are especially useful in off-road situations where winches or tow straps may not be practical or available. Recovery boards are lightweight, portable, and easy to use, making them a popular and essential piece of gear for off-road enthusiasts and overlanders looking to self-recover without external assistance.
